Kalamunda Real Estate

Kalamunda is some 25 kilometres east of Perth in the Darling Ranges and is 300 metres above sea level. Kalamunda has a lot of State Forest and the Kalamunda National Park. The name 'Kalamunda' comes from 2 Aboriginal words meaning 'home' & 'forrest' .. a very apt description of the area.

Kalamunda was initally settled by Benjamin Mason around 1865 as working timber station complete with horse drawn railway line.

Kalamunda has three seperate areas: The Plains, (Consisting of Forrestfield, Maida Vale, High Wycombe and Wattle Grove) The Escarpment (Conssting of Kalamunda, Gooseberry Hill and Lesmurdie), and the Eastern Districts (Walliston, Piesse Brook, Bickley, Carmel and Pickering Brook).

Despite the ever growing Urban sprawl, Kalamunda still retains a sense of peace amongst the Jarrah and Marri forests in the Hills. Kalamunda and the surrounding areas have a strong arts and crafts tradition

The town was once part of a thriving timber logging region, being a stopping place on the Upper Darling Range Railway. The region also has extensive areas of orchards, primarily involved in apple and stone fruit growing.

STATISTICS: The Kalamunda population is currently around 6800 people and the Shire covers some 10 square kilometres and is home to 3 major Perth residential colleges.
